James Island Middle School students helping the environment!
On March 26 & 27, 7th grade science students volunteered with the Department of Natural Resources to help with the S.C. Oyster Restoration and Enhancement (SCORE) Project. The students learned about oyster habitat and replenishment, and about the importance of oyster beds to our environment. By the end of the day they had built a reef for oyster larvae to land on and live their lives. The reef will also help to prevent erosion along the shore and will provide habitat for lots of species of marine animals, in addition to oysters.
