Island Middle School students helping the environment!
On March 26 & 27, 7th grade science students volunteered with the Department of Natural Resources to help with the S.C. Oyster Restoration and Enhancement (SCORE) Project. The students learned about oyster habitat and replenishment, and about the importance of oyster beds to our environment. By the end of the day they had built a reef for oyster larvae to land on and live their lives. The reef will also help to prevent erosion along the shore and will provide habitat for lots of species of marine animals, in addition to oysters.

JIMS Job Shadow Day
OB SHADOW DAY 2014 was a BIG SUCCESS! Thank you to all the parents who made arrangements for their child to shadow. Thank you to all the local businesses who hosted our students for this great career exploration opportunity. Judging from the pictures and observation forms, our students learned invaluable lessons about the soft skills, technical skills, and personal attributes that help a person to be successful in a career. Over 50% of our students participated this year. We look forward to even more participation next year.
