Mrs. Whatley

Hello!  I am looking forward to teaching your child this year.  I am orginally from upstate New York.  I graduated from the State University of New York at Albany with a BA in psychology.  After graduating, I enlisted in the US army and served for four years. I then moved to Charleston and earned my Masters degree in education.  The following year I started teaching at James Island Middle.  I have been fortunate enough to have taught here for 25 years.

This Week's Updates & Assignments

Welcome to 8th grade ELA.  Students have had an opportunity to visit the library.  For the second nine weeks, students will be responsible for reading a historical fiction book.  They should have already checked out a book from the library.  This book needs to be read by November 30th.  November 30th, December 1st and 2nd we will be in the computer lab creating a Google slide presentation for our book project this quarter.  If they have not finished the book by then, it will be difficult for them to complete the project.  Beginning December 5th, we will be presenting these presentations in class.

Most five-day weeks students will receive a reading passage and question sheet on Monday.  Each day they will have a section for homework.  On Friday they will be given a test on the reading passage.  I have the assignments on my calendar.  The first assignment of the week will also include attachments of the reading passage and questions if you click on it.  If you have any questions, please contact me at
